Lewis Hamilton leads Felipe Massa in the F1 title race by one point. He said that is in better shape for the Formula One world title showdown this year than he was in 2007. The Englishman lost out in his debut season last year despite a healthy lead going into the final races.

“I’m definitely in a different mental state than last year. Last year I was a bit tense and nervous in the last few races. This year I don’t have any of that. I understand what I need to do.” said Hamilton ahead of Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix.

Oil tumbles to lowest level since March 2007

Oil Pump

Oil prices fell to near a 20-monthlow of US$60 a barrel overnight as hopes waned that a huge Chinese speeding plan.

In electronic trading on Globex, December crude fell to an intraday low of $60.16, its lowest level since late March 2007.

“Oil prices slipped back further into a recently established trading range yesterday and overnight, as the focus of participants was on the threats to demand posed by a contracting global economy,” said John Kilduff, an analyst at MF Global.

Oil prices and stock markets jumped after China said it planned to spend US$586 billion in a bid to spur economic growth. But pessimism soon returned as investors focused again on a swooning US economy, which faces its worst recession in decades.

“The market is realising that (Chinese) package can’t prevent us from sliding into the mess we’re heading toward,” said Toby Hassall, an analyst with Commodity Warrants Australia in Sydney. “The economic outlook is pretty bleak.”

Oil prices fell despite signs that OPEC members are going ahead with production cuts agreed to at an emergency meeting in Vienna, Austria.
